BANGALORE: Parks in and around the city came up to supplement the need for greenery with Bangalore getting tags such as the ‘concrete jungle’. Kids are seen jumping around  and trying to see who swings higher or trying hard to get sand out of their shoes. Elderly citizens are trying to stay fit according to their doctor’s advice. And the rest few go to parks to contemplate about life. One of these, located in close proximity to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and another in Judicial’s Colony seem to be keeping up to their task quite satisfactorily. The one situated adjacent to the ISRO building has a walking area and a children’s play area. Spread across a vast span of land, it is provided with a sitting area, walking paths and lush greenery.Visitors say that the park is a place where they can come anytime and relax without a care in the world. Purushotam, a resident of an apartment that overlooks the park, said, “We look out of our windows and heave a sigh of relief because it doesn’t make us feel like we are living in one of the most crowded and busiest cities in the country.”The slight complication with the park lies in the fact that the road, Tank Bund Road, outside the park is laden with potholes. In several spots in the children’s play area one can find broken pavement stones and tiles. The stench from the open drain nearby and the disposal of waste near the park is also a matter of concern. The children’s park in Judicial Layout is, on the other hand, well maintained. Open from 7 am to 9 am and 5 pm to 7 pm, the park draws its share of tiny tots from the area. Swings, slides and the joyous screams of the kids greets one to the park in the evening. A portion of the park has been converted into a sand pit. While the kids frolic in the sand pit, the parents take a walk. Sheela, a parent of a five year old kid, said, “I come here on a regular basis. It’s good because it gives you the much needed break for the routine life. Also, my child loves to play on the swings.” The caretaker, on the condition of anonymity, said that the park has been around for a few years now and is systematically cleaned. Dustbins are placed at equidistant places and posters have been placed asking people not to litter. Seating has been well arranged and the presence of a meditation area makes it complete. The local corporator of the area D Venkatesha, said, “Other than improving seed varieties and planting more flowering plants, there is not much we can do as the parks are quite alright by themselves.”
