CHENNAI: The AIADMK on Tuesday demanded a thorough investigation into the irregularities in the functioning of the now-defunct Arasu Cable TV Corporation. Former minister Pollachi Jayaraman said the government should probe into the loss incurred through the purchase of equipment for the Arasu Cable TV Corporation. He said by nationalising cable TV operations, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has prevented a loss of around `1,000 crore to the exchequer. This money was going to a particular family every year.He said the government should also probe into the losses incurred by the TNEB due to the purchase of substandard coal. Death of the Secretariat construction workers should also be investigated, he said.Jayaraman also urged the government to resolve the Tirupur dyeing units impasse which has affected the livelihood of lakhs of workers. Assn warns of efforts to scuttle venture The Thamizhaga Cable TV Operators General Welfare Association (TCOA) has cautioned the TN government that the Sun TV Network allegedly had plans to scuttle the functioning of Arasu Cable TV Corporation after its proposed revival.The TCOA had undertaken a hunger strike here to condemn the monopolisation of the distribution business in the State by the Sun TV group. P Sakilan, State president said , “We have learnt that the Sun group has decided not to give signals of its television channels besides those of other leading broadcasters such as Star, Sony and Zee to Arasu cable. Through this move, they plan to scuttle government’s initiative,” Sakilan alleged.Charging them with “intimidating” cable operators into agreeing to an “arbitrary hike of 25 per cent” in subscription rates, he said the group was halting signals without prior to get the operators to agree to its terms.
