Once again, the Sunburn Festival is in the news for all the wrong reasons. It is alleged that organisers used the image of Lord Shiva ‘inappropriately’ in the festival which was held in Goa from December 28 to 31. Another accusation levelled against the festival claims that two girls were taken into an ambulance from the festival due to some unknown reasons.
Aam Aadmi Party Goa President, Amit Palekar posted about the festival on the microblogging site, X claiming that Lord Shiva’s pictures were used in a derogatory manner in the famous electronic dance music festival.
In his post, he claimed that people were drinking alcohol and were dancing to loud music with an image of Lord Shiva flashing on the screen. He added that this step of organisers has hurt his ‘Sanatan Dharma’.
People drinking alcohol and dancing to loud music and my lord Shiva’s pics used in a derogatory manner flashing on screen at EDM Festival hurts my Sanatan Dharma @DrPramodPSawant and you should immediately register FIR against @SunburnFestival for using my god for the festival which… pic.twitter.com/KLOieJVtVy— Amit Palekar (@AmitPalekar10) December 29, 2023
The AAP leader stated that since the integrity of Sanatan Dharma was jeopardized, he has urged that the government take appropriate action.
“It is improper to utilize our God for the sake of an EDM festival where alcohol is served”, he said adding that he had called the director general of police and demanded that an offense against the Sunburn festival organizers be registered.
Congress has also demanded action against the organisers of the Sunburn EDM festival. A Congress leader Vijay Bhike has filed a police complaint at Mapusa against the organisers of Sunburn on Friday night.
Bhike complained to the Mapusa police station, contending that the organizers had deliberately offended Hindu religious sentiments by highlighting that Lord Shiva condones alcohol consumption, the use of prohibited substances, and any other illegal activity that occurs during the event.
A senior law enforcement official stated that they are currently investigating a complaint that they received from Congress.
The Goa festival also witnessed some scenes of stealing high-end mobile phones worth Rs 25 lakh. However, the Goa police on Saturday arrested seven members of a gang, all hailing from Mumbai for the crime.
The police have seized 29 mobile phones of different brands, which the accused stole from concertgoers during the three-day festival, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Mapusa) Jivba Dalvi said.
The Anjuna police were already prepared for such incidents and policemen in plain clothes were deployed at the venue to keep a watch on such elements, the official said.
Also, the police arrested five persons employed by the organisers for allegedly stealing passes worth Rs 82 lakh and attempting to sell them.
The organisers had approached the police with a complaint about the theft, following which the arrests were made, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Mapusa) Jivba Dalvi said.
