CHENNAI: Dignity Foundation, an NGO that works for the cause and care of elderly citizens, is organising a five-day film festival for the 50-plus citizens of the city. During the event, five handpicked movies of the golden era will be screened from June 27 to July 1 at the South Indian film Chamber of Commerce from 11am to 2pm. The Dignity Film Festival is all set to revisit the glory of cinema from the 1950s to 1970s by screening Tamil and Hindi movies. VP Dhananjayan and Shanta Dhananjayan will be hosting the event. K Radhakrishnan, Director of the  Dignity Foundation Chennai, said, “In our day-to-day interaction with elder citizens, we have realised that the elderly have very limited options for entertainment and we have sensed their yearning for old movies. To address this need, we have initiated the Dignity Film Festival in Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune and Kolkata.”Apart from the wide range of services offered by the Foundation, there is also a toll-free helpline. Any elderly person (50-plus) across the city can call 42133002 to avail the services. More often than not, the calls are usually related to abuse, social-psychological problems, ageing, legal issues, investment or property disputes, medical problems, old age homes and much more. The helpline offers free counseling, trusted information, professional counseling and helps elders manage difficult situations. Dignity Foundation is associated with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).For more details, call AR Sreeja, GM of the Dignity Foundation (Chennai Chapter) 9884033110 or send an email to [email protected]
