Defending Jharkhand Assembly, Speaker C P Singh's continuation in the post, former Chief Minister Arjun Munda said on Monday constitutional definition should prevail upon.
"I can only say that the rule of law must prevail," Munda, a BJP leader, said at a press conference in Jamshedpur. He was replying to a query on the JMM's reported demand for Singh's resignation in the wake of formation of a new coalition in the state on July 13.
"The speaker has discretionary power in the House, which he can apply when a member or a party crosses limits," Munda said without elaborating but hinting that something is in store on July 18, when the special session of the state assembly meets in Ranchi.
Out of 43 MLAs supporting the new JMM/Congress/RJD government, two JMM MLAs Sita Soren and Nalin Soren, are wanted by the police on different charges while Congress MLA Sawna Lakra is in jail after being sentenced for life in a murder case.
Asked about suspended BJP MLA Baidyanath Ram's statement that he would vote as per his conscience during the floor test, Munda said the party leadership would take a decision in this regard.
Ram and another woman leader of the BJP were suspended from the party on 'bigamy' charges sometime ago.
Turning his guns on the JMM-led alliance, Munda said, "The government is installed with the support of tainted MLAs, unmasking the real face of JMM and Congress, who will be equally responsible (for any eventuality)". To another query, Munda said, "The government is already on artificial respiratory system".
