Los Angeles: California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger received 15 stitches to his lip on Sunday after being injured in a "minor" accident on his Harley Davidson motorcycle, his office said.
The 58-year-old former action movie star was taken to a Los Angeles hospital along with his 12-year-old son, Patrick, who was riding in the motorbike's sidecar when a car reversed out in front of the celebrity politician.
"Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger received 15 stitches to repair a cut lip today after a minor traffic accident near his home in Los Angeles," his press secretary Margita Thompson said in a statement.
"The Governor was unable to avoid the vehicle in his path and collided with it at a low speed," she said adding that both the governor and his son were treated and later released from hospital.
The star of such movies as The Terminator and Conan the Barbarian was wearing a helmet when the accident occurred near his compound of homes in Los Angeles' plush Brentwood area, Thompson said.
Patrick Schwarzenegger was treated for cuts and bruises. The governor is expected to maintain his schedule of appointments on Monday.
The Austrian-born former body-builder Schwarzenegger took power in California in November 2003 after switching focus from a legendary but slowly fading movie career to state politics.
He was dealt a humiliating defeat in a special election he called in November last year to try to ram through reforms contained in four measures that were roundly rebuffed by voters.
