BANGALORE: The arrest of former minister G Janardhana Reddy by the CBI may have come as a shock to his followers. However, it has come as a blessing in disguise for the state BJP and Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda as they will get more time to deal with the resignation of former minister and confidant of the Reddys, B Sriramulu. The one-month-old government led by Sadananda Gowda had plunged into a crisis on Sunday following Sriramulu’s resignation from the Assembly. Sriramulu’s resignation was a direct fall-out of the party’s decision to keep him and the Reddy brothers out of the Cabinet owing to their indictment in the Lokayukta report on illegal mining in the state. The Reddys had planned to put pressure on the BJP leadership to get their demands fulfilled by making Sriramulu resign. They were also mulling to launch a political outfit if the BJP refused to budge. But now with the arrest of Reddy, all their plans go haywire as they will be busy fighting a legal battle which is likely to stretch for months. Till that time, there can be no problem to the state government from them.Though the BJP leadership acknowledges the contribution of the Reddys in building the party, they are also equally fed up with their manoeuvres and pressure tactics to maintain their hold on the party as well as on the government. The party and the government had faced crises several times in the past due to the Reddy brothers. They literally brought the government to its knees in 2009 by mobilising over 60 BJP MLAs to get their demands fulfilled.
