Congress MLA will select their leader on Friday. Tarun Gogoi, who led party in elections, favourite to be CM again.

Guwahati: The Congress and a Bodo party will form a coalition government in Assam and take oath of office on Wednesday.

The Congress has 52 seats and the Bodo Progressive People's Front (Hagrama) 12 seats in the 126-member Assembly. An Independent MLA will support the new government.

''The Congress Legislative Party will met on Saturday, and it is obvious that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will be elected as the legislative party leader. He will then go to New Delhi and the swearing-in ceremony will take place on May 17,” said Himanta Biswa Sharma, a former minister and Gogoi’s associate.

Congress leader Digvijay Singh refused to comment who the will be the new chief minister. Gogoi is the favourite, as the other contenders state Congress chief Bhubaneswar Kalita and senior leader Devananda Konwar were defeated in the polls.

Hagrma Mohilary, leader of the Bodo Progressive People's Front (Hagrama) and the CEO of the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District Council, supports Gogoi.

Gogoi said he had proved himself at the elections and would abide by the decision of the party legislators and the high command over their choice.
