CUDDALORE: Just a day after a failed attempt to loot an primary agricultural cooperative bank (PACB), a bid to loot a jewellery shop here was reported on Tuesday. The police said as security measures they have intensified patrol during nights.According to the police, miscreants had drilled a hole into a wall of Azhagappa Jewellery near railway gate at Thiruppapuliyur here. However, as the wall was strong they could not gain entry into the shop. The hole was noticed by an employee of the shop when he was parking his two-wheeler on Tuesday morning. The employee informed Kumar, the owner of shop, who in turn informed the police about the incident. Cuddalore DSP Vanitha and Thiruppapuliyur inspector Shyam Sundar conducted inquiries. After initial inquiry the police said that there was jewels worth `5 crore in the shop and all of them were safe. There are over 100 jewellery shops situated on the street. And the shop owners  of the area said they were concerned about their shops’ safety. It is to be noted that an on wee hours of Monday miscreants had gained entry into a primary agricultural co-op bank PACB at Manjakuppam and attempted to loot a locker that had jewellery worth  `10 lakh  and `4.5 lakh in cash.Vanitha said: “Four teams have been formed in Cuddalore sub-divisional level to nab the miscreants who made these attempts. Two teams are functioning under SP Pakalavan and I am leading two teams. So far we have no clue about them. But the miscreants will be caught soon as we intensified investigation.”
