KARWAR: Yesvantpur- Mangalore (Tri Weekly) Express train service was extended to Karwar from Monday by South-Western Railways. With this the long standing dream of the people of Uttara-Kannada district to have rail link to Bangalore has been fulfilled.Train No. 16515, will originate at Yesvantpur on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.30 am and reach Karwar the same day at 11 pm. Train No. 16516, will start from Karwar on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 5.30 am and reach Yesvantpur the same day at 10.25 pm, according to sources. It will be a 15-hours journey from Yesvantpur to Karwar.The train will halt at Udupi, Mukambika Road, Bhatkal and Kumta on extended route between Mangalore junction and Karwar. It will skip Mangalore central, Kundapur, Honnavar and Ankola stations much to the disappointment of the people of these places. The people of Honnavar have expressed their strong resentment and warned to wage an agitation. The train will have sixteen coaches and carry 1,500 passengers. The ticket booking counters are open from November 12.
