Bangloreans go nuts as fair comes to an end
The Parishe, which ended on Wednesday, left citizens craving for more.

BANGALORE: Heaps of groundnuts around Bull Temple allured everyone who took part in the fair. The Parishe, which ended on Wednesday, left citizens craving for more. Residents of Basavangudi and the vendors opined that there was good response to the fair this year in comparison to the previous years.

Saravana, a groundnut vendor who put up his stall for the tenth consecutive year, said, “The income was much higher compared to the previous years. We want the fair to go on for many more days in the coming years, as this encourages the growers and also fetches good amount of profit to them.”

Some believe that the carnival was wrapped up early this year because of the traffic congestion that lead to snarls in the area and affected the arterial Lalbagh Road too.  “Though the fair officially started on Monday, we started selling groundnuts and other products on Saturday. There was a good response from the people. There are many who came here for the first time and have a keen interest in knowing what the fair is all about. There is a gradual increase in the number of people taking part in the fair, both in terms of vendors and visitors,” said Palani, a vendor.

There were vendors from different parts of the state, who put up stalls in the fair. They not only sold groundnuts but also other products like snacks, fruits, toys and fancy jewels among other things. When asked about the investment on their stalls for the fair, Anburasu S, a vendor from Hosur, said, “We invest a good amount of money on the products we sell in the fair. Though it is the best time to make profit, we have to leave the premises once the fair gets over. So, the joy is short-lived.”

He further added, “We have to make alternative arrangements to overcome the loss we undergo. Hence we sell these food items in carts in different parts of Bangalore.”
