BANGALORE: Polling for the by-elections to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) Gandhinagar ward turned out to be dull, with voter turnout less than 50 per cent.However, the process did not face any problems. Election Officer, Nagarajaiah said, “Till 11.30 am, the voter turnout was around 13.5 per cent and by 3 pm it raised to 30 per cent. At the end of the day, only 11,718 people out of 24,851 voters cast their votes, making it only 47.15 per cent.”Many of he voters were seen regretting in the booths, as they did not have their names on voters’ list. Over ten thousand voters, who failed to submit their photographs to the electoral officers, have their names deleted from the voters’ list. In 2010 BBMP elections, the total voters in Gandhinagar were 35,310 which has now reduced to 24,851.BIRYANI AND NOTES FLOWThough voters were less, there were allegations of money floating, to lure them. According to sources, Congress party distributed `1,000 per household, while BJP gave `2,000 per house in Lakshmipura slum. There are allegations on other parties and independent candidates, of distributing money. Some voters were seen carrying Biryani packet in their hands after voting in Government Urdu school near Seshadripuram.14 HYPERSENSITIVE BOOTHSOut of 30 polling booths, 14 were considered as ‘hypersensitive’ and the rest ‘sensitive’.
