A week after the blast at a popular eatery in Bengaluru, fresh CCTV footage has emerged of the bombing suspect who has, so far, managed to evade arrest. A team of NIA officials reached Ballari on Thursday based on leads that the suspect travelled to northern Karnataka.
According to sources, CCTV grabs have shown the suspect in Tumakuru and Ballari. The evidence suggests that the suspect left Bengaluru after the blast and could have taken a bus to Mantralaya in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh.
Police are probing if anyone spotted the suspect on this journey, which was more than 350 km. The teams of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have spread out across these areas as well as Uttar Kannada in an attempt to arrest the suspect.
Based on CCTV evidence, investigators believe that the baseball cap-wearing suspect reached the Rameshwaram Cafe after boarding a bus on route 500D. He reached the eatery around 11.34 am and left in nine minutes. While in the cafe and around, his face was covered by a mask but a grab inside a public bus shows his full face without sunglasses, mask or cap.
The NIA is probing if he changed his attire en route. His baseball cap was reportedly recovered from a place of worship at least 5 km from the cafe. Officials said at least one person is being questioned at the place of worship.
Cafe reopens tomorrow
The Rameshwaram Cafe, meanwhile, is all set to reopen for the public on Friday that could also see chief minister Siddaramaiah in attendance. The proprietors received a go-ahead after the police, National Security Guard (NSG), forensic and NIA teams gathered all material evidence from the spot. The exact site of the blast will remain secured even as the public is allowed in the rest of the eatery.
