NAMAKKAL: Complaints of bigamy are pouring in at the Tamil Nadu State Commission (TNSC) for Women, its chairman Saraswathi Rangasamy has revealed. She was speaking to reporters after holding a review meeting at the District Collectorate on Monday. “We are receiving at least 20 complaints every day from across the State through post and some directly submit their complaints. Most of the women complain of bigamy against their husbands. They allege that their husbands marry again just after three to four months of marrying them. This trend is on the rise of late,” she noted. Further, complaints of dowry harassment, domestic violence, torture by in-laws and general family disputes were also being received frequently, she said.“Those who approach us with complaints relating to family disputes are provided counselling by the commission,” Saraswathi informed. The chairman also pointed out that some women approached TNSC with complaints of caste discrimination as well. She said that the commission had asked a senior police official to investigate the complaint of a woman official working in a government office in Vellore district, alleging harassment by her superior.During the meet, the commission chief took stock of the action taken on 13 petitions submitted in Namakkal. She announced that similar meetings would be held in all districts to review the action taken on the complaints lodged by women.
