BANGALORE: Thinking that the fall of the D V Sadananda Gowda is only a matter of time due to internal bickering in the BJP, the JD(S) has convened an emergency meeting of its state executive committee, senior leaders and former legislators on January 6 to take stock of the political situation and decide its future course of action. Speaking to Express from Delhi, state JD (S) president H D Kumaraswamy said that there is no question of former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and state party unit chief K S Eshwarappa reconciling after the former directly accused the latter of being responsible for being jailed.Elaborating on what Kumaraswamy said, party spokesperson and MLC Y S V Datta asserted that Eshwarappa and Yeddyurappa cannot coexist in the party. “I do not think there is any chance for the party leadership to bridge the gap between the two leaders, especially after the former chief minister made a strong accusation against the state president of the party. It only means the beginning of the end of the first-ever BJP government in Karnataka,” Datta said while predicting snap polls in the state sometime in March or April. He, however, affirmed that the party will not do anything to save the government. “We have been demanding the ouster of this government on charges of corruption and maladministration. There is no moral right for the BJP to rule after many of its ministers and MLAs are going behind bars on charges of corruption. The sooner this government goes, the better for people,” he said. When asked why his party helped Sadananda Gowda win by abstaining from voting in the recent council elections, Datta said, “Hypothetically speaking, if we had voted against the BJP, it would not have affected the outcome. We wanted to remain equidistant from both the BJP and Congress. Nothing more should be read into this,” Datta said.
