HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State Aids Control Society (APSACS) held a rally at Necklace road from Jalavihar to Sanjeevaiah Park on Tuesday to commemorate the World Voluntary Blood Donors Day. The rally comprised voluntary donors who held banners saying ‘More blood - More Life’.The participants who donated blood were given certificates of appreciation by APSACS.Chief guest R V Chandravadan, APSACS project director said that state Govt has 7 lakh units of blood and 235 blood banks on which a tab is kept. The blood that is collected there passes through five screening tests for diseases. The government also gives free kits and reagents to all private blood banks that follow the same protocol.Voluntary blood donation camps in educational institutions under the name of Red Ribbon have proved to be very effective, he said.Dr Sujatha, joint director of blood safety APSACS, Venkateshwar Rao, deputy director IEC APSACS, T N Swamy and assistant director IEC APSACS were also present.
