BHUBANESWAR: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has earmarked ` 100 crore for roads and drainage repair for the fiscal 2012-13. BMC’s budget for 2012-13 fiscal was placed before the corporators and BMC officials on Saturday. In view of the dismal condition of the roads in the city, a major part of the budget was allotted for repair and maintenance of roads and drains. The repair and maintenance budget for roads and drains was ` 21 crore last year. “There has been a substantial increase in the funds allocated for slum improvement compared to last year,” said Municipal Commissioner Vishal K Dev. Four Detailed Project Reports (DPR) under the Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) on slum-improvement will be submitted under the budget.    The corporation has made provisions for 12 additional kalyan mandaps in the budget. Provisions have been made for construction of a public auditorium and a public library. An abattoir and 10 more parks will also come up.  “The draft of the budget has been placed on Saturday and all the officials have been given time till March 10 to give their views and suggestions on the proposals,” said Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena.  Most of the corporators were satisfied with the budget as there is a hike of 12 per cent compared to the previous year. In the next corporation meeting on March 10, they will place their demands that will address the problems of their ward. Ward 6 corporator SK Baliarsingh is focusing on the need for a bus stand at the Rasulgarh square, that is one of the busiest traffic points, without any proper management. Similarly, ward number 30 corporator HB Samantary will try to get one of the additional kalyan mandaps in his ward as they do not have one.
