KOTTAYAM: BOX4NEWS, the unique online news collection and transfer box of Kottayam Press Club has notched up a national honour by finding its way to the prestigious Limca Book of Records. The newsbox has been rated as the first-of-its-kind in the country in the communication section of the Limca Book of Records.Authorities of the Kottayam Press club has received information in this regard and a certificate attesting the honour has also reached here. The coveted status of BOX4NEWS was listed in the 21st edition of the Limca Book of Records, which came out recently, said Press Club president R Rajiv and secretary Jacob Eapen.The newsbox was the product of a painstaking effort under the Kottayam Press Club a couple of years ago to find an alternative to the conventional pattern of collection of news and dissemination, side by side with the existing systems. A monitoring cell comprising S Sanil Kumar, Robin P Thomas and Jimmy Philip on behalf of the Kottayam Press Club has been constantly keeping a tab on the credibility of the news whatsoever fed into the newsbox by those who had availed the prior sanction of the Press Club. It has emerged as a big hit and a reliable tool for mediapersons and various tech-savvy stakeholders belonging to different strata as divergent as theNair Service Society, the Rubber Board, Mahatma Gandhi University and the Kerala Congress(M).BOX4NEWS was launched on October 6,2009, by Union Commerce Minister Anand Sharma. Right from the beginning,the system had a proven character and any information on the news fed on the line was alerted instantly to mediapersons. A separate channel to source purely local news through a link with Akshaya centres in Kottayam district is also an attraction of the newsbox.
