New Delhi: Lewis Hamilton stands on the brink of the biggest achievement of his life. But a fourth place start on the grid may not be ideal for Sunday night’s Brazilian Grand Prix.
The 23-year-old is aware that a top five finish would give him the world title that eluded him last season at the same venue.
“I think it's quite different when compared to last year. Simply because last year we came here and I'd had one bad race and so it was all a bit hectic and the pressure of it being the last race was upon me and perhaps it got to me,” Hamilton said.
“This year, I feel it's just another race. And we've come from a great race in China and I know that here we'll be just as strong, if not a little bit stronger. So it looks positive and again, my approach is the same as in the last race. We're just here to do the best job we can,” he added.
What Hamilton needs to do:
- Hamilton must finish at least fifth to be champion, if Massa wins in Brazil.
- If Massa is second, Hamilton must finish at least seventh.
- If Massa is third or lower, Hamilton will be the new champion.
Not just being the youngest Formula One world champion in its 59-season history, Hamilton could become the world's first sportsman to earn 1 billion pounds a year.
He could go past Michael Jordan (28 million pounds per year) and even better Tiger Woods who is currently at number one with 72 million pounds a year.
Hamilton goes in with inspiration from his childhood hero Ayrton Senna. But Ayrton Senne's homeland Brazil and 77000 spectators at Interlagos would want, local boy, Filipe Massa to be his heir apparent
“You know I have a great feeling with the Brazilian people. And that is great. But we always want more and that's our life. When you win one race, you want to win a second time. When you win, I've never won a Championship but I think it's the same. You know, if you win the first time, you wish even harder to win the second time,” Massa said.
Hamilton is the favourite given his seven-point lead but Massa has gained a crucial advantage securing the pole.
So amidst racist messages and the possibility of dirty driver tricks, Brazilian Grand Prix promises to be an exciting one.
