Bus rams into shops, girl killed

COIMBATORE: In a freak accident, a college girl was killed as a rashly driven omnibus rammed into roadside shops here on Tuesday. All other passengers escaped unhurt. J Anju (21), who was sitting in the front seat, was hit on the head by a rod supporting a shop’s sunshade and died on the spot. The omnibus had begun its journey from Karaikal on Monday night and was headed to Ernakulam. Police said the bus driver, S Subash, was speeding and lost control of the bus while it was on the Ondipudur bridge on Tiruchy Road around 5.30 a.m. Subash was arrested for negligent driving.
