KARUR: A case was registered against the management of Sun TV for allegedly threatening a cable TV operator for demanding receipt for the amount paid by him as monthly charges to Sun Distributors Service. The complaint was lodged by cable TV operator V Sangilimuthu of Thogaimalai on Thursday with Thogaimalai police as he felt he was being blackmailed by the TV firm.Addressing reporters on Thursday, Sangilimuthu said he had been in the business for the past 17 years, telecasting several channels including SUN and KTV. He had been paying Rs 13,033 per month as charges to Sun Distributors Service which is a wing of Sun TV. But no receipt was ever issued for payments despite repeated requests.Meanwhile, Sangilimuthu received a notice from Sun TV on December 6, 2010 stating that he owed the firm Rs 3,30,424 which had to be paid immediately failing which the telecasting rights would be transferred to another operator.Fearing adverse outcome, Sangilimuthu had remitted Rs 1.65 lakh in five instalments. But another intimation from the firm quoted the same figure of Rs 3 lakh plus as dues.The district representative of Sun TV declined to give any clarifications regarding the payments made, threatening him with dire consequences.Sangilimuthu said he was in dire straits and sought the police help in getting a statement from the Sun TV management and initiate action against those involved.
