KOCHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested a Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) official after he was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a petrol pump owner. A case has been registered under 120-B of the IPC and Section 7 of the PC Act,1988, against Luis, a senior technician of HPCL. He had demanded bribe from the owner of a petrol pump at Mamangalam here for issuing the clearance certificate. According to the CBI, the official had demanded the bribe last week and asked the petrol pump owner to come to the office on Monday and hand over Rs 10000 for issuing the certificate. As the pump owner informed the CBI, they could arrest the official red-handed. The CBI officials under the guise of friends of the petrol pump owner met the official and handed over him a sum of Rs10,000. As the official accepted the bribe he was taken into custody. The official will be produced before the Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
