BANGALORE: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has appealed to the CBI Designated Court to direct former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and other accused in the illegal mining case to appear in person during the court proceedings. Following this, the court directed Yeddyurappa’s counsel to file objections and adjourned hearings on the anticipatory bail pleas of the former CM and his kin till May 29.When the anticipatory bail petition came up for hearing in the court on Friday, the CBI counsel argued that granting bail for the accused in the case would hamper ongoing investigations. He also said that the investigations were being made as per Supreme Court’s direction and there were chances of the accused affecting the probe as they were highly influential. Further, he filed application seeking the court to order that all the accused be present in person before the court during the hearings.Following this, Judge Venkat Sudarshan directed Yeddyurappa’s counsel to file objections. It may be recalled that CBI had filed an FIR and raided Yeddyurappa and his kin’s residences and offices on May 16, following which they had moved anticipatory bail pleas apprehending arrests.
