New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned former finance minister P Chidambaram for questioning on June 6 in the INX media case.
According to sources, the Congress leader was called for questioning in the case on Thursday as well, but he asked for another day. The Delhi High Court had on Thursday also granted Chidambaram interim protection from arrest till July 3 in the case.
Chidambaram has been asked by the CBI to appear on June 6 for questioning in connection with alleged irregularities in the clearance of foreign investment in INX media, a venture promoted by former media baron Peter Mukerjea and his wife Indrani, sources said.
Chidambaram's alleged role has come under the scanner in connection with the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance of Rs 305 crore given to INX media.
The Delhi High Court, on May 31, had given interim protection from arrest to Chidambaram. Justice AK Pathak asked Chidambaram to join questioning and cooperate in the investigation as and when called by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
In the INX Media case, the CBI had registered an FIR on May 15 last year against alleged irregularities in the FIPB clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas funds to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 when Chidambaram was finance minister.
Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram was also arrested in the matter on February 28 for allegedly receiving funds to the tune of Rs 10 lakh in the case. He was granted bail on March 23.
