Two children made to beg allegedly by their own alcoholic mother have been rescued by an NGO at a railway station in Kota, officials said on Thursday.
The two siblings, aged eight and six were rescued by members of Child Line and produced before the Child Welfare Society of Kota, a government body, which sent them to a temporary children shelter home on Wednesday.
The rescue team member Rajat Sharma said the two children were rescued on Tuesday from the railway station area and about Rs 1,100 were also recovered from their possession.
CWC member Vimal Chand Jain said that they have also written a letter to Bheemganj Mandi police station recommending action against the parents of the rescued children, under section 24 of the Juvenile Act.
Harish Bharti, SHO Bheemganj Mandi station has confirmed receiving the CWC letter and said that they are probing the matter.
The children told the CWC that they were forced to beg on the roadside and the money that they collected as alms were used by her mother for purchasing liquor.
The children lived with their mother and father under a flyover in Rangpur area of the city. The father is a daily wage labourer and is also reported to be alcohol addict, Sharma said.
Meanwhile, members of the Child Line team on Thursday also rescued three other minor boys from the railway station area. The rescued children would be produced before the CWC on Friday, officials said.
