BANGALORE: With the Lokayukta police filing a ‘B report’ in the Lokayukta Special Court, Home Minister R Ashok has been given a clean chit in connection with the alleged illegal denotification of government land by misuse of office case. The Lokayukta city division’s DySP Abdul Ahmad, on Friday, submitted the report in ten volumes that runs to 1,400 pages to Judge N K Sudheendra Rao.In the report, the police termed the allegations made against the minister as baseless and have mentioned that the accused has not flouted any rules in purchasing the land that was denotified by the government earlier. The report also claimed that it was the fault of the land owner and sub-registrar, and not Ashok, for registering the property, which the minister purchased only after the BDA notified it.“But, a land that is notified by the BDA cannot be sold and sub-registrars should not facilitate any such sale. Hence, Ashok has not violated any Act by purchasing the notified land,” the report said.Meanwhile, the police also maintained that the original owner of the land had written to former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa asking him to denotify the land. After the submission of the report the Judge directed the complainant, Jayakumar Hiremath an RTI activist, to file his objections on January 17 and adjourned the hearing.Hiremath had alleged that Ashok had influenced the then CM B S Yeddyurappa to denotify government land that was identified for acquisition by the BDA.The lands market value was around Rs 15 crore and Ashok allegedly misused his position to purchase it for Rs 44.77 lakh.
