THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP leader and former Union Minister O Rajagopal has alleged  that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was under the influence of certain coteries which had vested interests in keeping DMRC and its former chairman E Sreedharan away from the Kochi Metro Project.  He told reporters here on Friday that Sreedharan and his team of experts of the DMRC could make the dream project a reality in the stipulated time. Having a track record of uncorrupt leadership and professionalism, time and again, he had proved that he could complete the projects even before schedule, Rajagopal said. Rajagopal said the Chief Minster had said that the state would avail of the services of Sreedharan. But that is not sufficient, Rajagopal said. He asked whether the Cabinet had taken such a decision. He said that Minister Aryadan Mohammed, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala, Union Ministers A K Antony, Vayalar Ravi and K V Thomas had made it clear that Sreedharan should lead the Kochi metro. But the people  of questionable repute were trying to create confusion, he said.  He said that during his stint as the Union Minister of State for Urban Affairs in the Vajpayee Government he had the opportunity to have a first-hand knowledge of the dedication and expertise of Sreedharan who made the Delhi Metro a reality.  He said that there was no reason for inviting global tender as the project had already been entrusted to the Delhi Metro by a Cabinet decision.
