Kolhapur: Ten buses of both Kolhapur Municipal Transport (KMT) and State Road Transport Corporation were damaged in stone pelting incidents during 'Kolhapur Bandh' observed jointly by Hindu organisations and political parties on Sunday.
About 150 members of Hindu organisations and political parties were detained by police from various places for supporting the bandh.
Meanwhile, MLA Madhubhai Chavan and Prakash Shendage of Bharatiya Janata Party were eager to go to Miraj, but police sent them back to Mumbai from Kolhapur airport.
Tension prevailed in Miraj and Sangli when police took action against violent agitators during the shutdown continuing from the last four days by Shiv Sena, BJP and other Hindu organisations.
Shops and cinema theatres remained closed in the city but rickshaw and bus services were by and large not affected. In the morning, leaders like Rambhau Chavan, Subhash Vora gathered with their supporters at Shivaji Chowk of Kolhapur and allegedly started shouting slogans against the 'role of police in Miraj riots.'
Police officers appealed them not to create tension, but the leaders ignored the appeal, after which they were detained.
District Shiv Sena chief Rajesh Kshirsagar and Sanjay Powar were also present at the Shivaji Chowk with their party workers in support of the agitation.
