Even after the announcement of One Rank One Pension scheme, ex-servicemen have continued to protest at Jantar Mantar. However, it seems that the patience of the government is wearing thin.
According to exclusive information, government sources have said that protests have no place in the defence forces. Sources also say that the continuing protests by army veterans has impeded the implementation of One Rank One Pension.
Sources also say that the government believes that the veterans must not politicise the issue. The government has started examining issues related to the induction of retired army jawans into other forces including the police, paramilitary, border security force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
A mega rally is being organised on September 12 at Jantar Mantar in support of the implementation of One Rank One Pension scheme. The rally is also organised to seek clarification from the government over the modalities of the OROP scheme announced by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Meanwhile, fissures are visible in the ex-servicemen's camp in their fight for OROP. Key member of the front that was formed to hold agitation demanding OROP Lt Gen Balbir Singh, announced the exit of his group Indian Ex-Services League from the front on Wednesday.
The scheme announced by the government will take 2013 as the base year to calculate pensions and date of implementation will be 1st July, 2014. The period for review was five years, something that has been a major sticking point while the veterans are demanding the pension to be reviewed every year.
