A bid to catch hold of minors consuming liquor at a pub in Banjara Hills boomeranged on the police when they discovered that none of those present in the pub were minors and moreover, not drunk. The police, however registered a petty case against an organiser of the event, in which the youngsters were participating, for not seeking prior police permission for the event.
Acting on a tip-off that several minors were consuming liquor at the Rain pub in Shangrila towers in Banjara Hills, the men in khaki swooped down on the pub, only to be left embarrassed after discovering that all the drunk ‘minors’ were actually majors who were in the pub since afternoon, attending an event.
TV channels, which went with breaking news of ‘drunk minors caught’, later rectified it by flashing the visuals of the ‘minors’ who were being let-off by the police, after the verification of their age by checking their ID cards.
However, the police did not accept defeat so easily. They took Mohit (27), who had organised a dance event on the pub premises, into custody for not seeking prior permission for the event. ‘’Mohit had organised an event and invited his friends without obtaining police permission and therefore we have registered a case against him,” Jubilee Hills inspector D V Pradeep Kumar said. “As we entered the pub, we found at least 300 customers inside and a dance event was going on. We tested all the customers with breath analysers but found none in a drunken condition.
