New Delhi: Cuban Vice President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez Mario on Monday held talks with President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during which bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest were discussed.
The visiting dignitary also met Vice President Hamid Ansari and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. An agreement on exemption of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports was signed between the two countries on Monday.
The External Affairs Ministry said Mario held wide-ranging discussions with the leaders here on a range of issues of mutual interest and concern.
Relations between India and Cuba have been traditionally warm and friendly. "Our relations are historical and underlined by convergence of interests on global issues," the MEA said.
The visit is the latest in a series of high-level contacts between India and Cuba over the past few years.
"Meetings were held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, reflecting the spirit of mutual trust, cooperation and understanding that characterizes the unique and special relations between the two countries," the MEA said.
