Dawood not Suffering From Gangrene, Says Close Aide Shakeel

Dawood Ibrahim's close aide Chhota Shakeel has denied reports that the India's most wanted criminal is seriously ill. Shakeel made the claims after CNN-News18 on Monday revealed that the man behind the 1993 Bombay serial blasts has crippling gangrene in his legs.

"Send someone there to the hospital that you are talking about. Get it authenticated from any hospital. I'm telling you there is no truth in these reports. I don't know who gives you such reports. I'm at the airport right now, I have a flight to catch in half an hour," he said.

He also claimed he had met Dawood recently and he was doing perfectly well. "I met Dawood half an hour ago. Everyone is doing their work. A bit of cough and cold happens once in a while but it has never been serious," he claimed.

But sources have told CNN-News18 that doctors treating Dawood believe that his gangrene is in an advanced stage and they will soon have no option but to amputate his legs.

While refusing to authenticate the report, former Mumbai commissioner and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Satyapal Singh said all efforts should be made to bring him back to India. "We should do our best to bring Dawood back before he dies," he said.

However, MoS Home Kiren Rijiju declined to comment on the story. "Will comment on it after Parliament session," said.
