New Delhi: Tricolour pasta to wish good luck to Indian team, cocktails like 'new ball' and 'green pitch' and snacks named 'straight drive' and 'googly' city restaurants and bars are offering all these and more to foodies during the ongoing Cricket World Cup.
To ensure that the cricket lovers flock to their outlets, many big eateries in the city and nearby satellite towns have put up large screens so that the matches can be viewed by fans in a better way. Several of them have also organised special contests on the theme of cricket.
Some restaurants have created World Cup menus, with delicacies named after cricket terminologies. Some others, like Moti Mahal Delux, has come up with new recipes.
"On the occasion of World Cup we have introduced special tricolour pasta. Through this, Moti Mahal wants to wish good luck to the Indian cricket team," a spokesperson said on behalf of the restaurant chain.
'Tapas' in Jaypee Siddharth Hotel is offering a cricket A La Carte menu from February 19 to April 2, with items like Bhajji's non-vegetarian tandoori platter, Lehmann's fish skewers and Zaheer Khan's seekh.
There will also be cocktails like 'new ball', 'green pitch', 'googly' and 'bouncer'. "A cricket-themed decor has been put in place with practice nets on the wall, posters of world cup moments, cricket merchandise and a special uniform cricket jersey for the staff and an umpire uniform for the
supervisor to add to the excitement," an official said.
Side Wok at Connaught Place and Island Bar at Shangri-La's Eros Hotel near Janpath have also tried to bring the feel of a cricket stadium at their interiors. Snacks items like 'straight drive' (California rolls and Sushi platter) and 'full toss' (Thai corn cakes with lemon grass) are being made
available at the Island Bar.
At Rodeo restaurant in CP and Gurgaon, sizzling Mexican food will be on offer while there will be a chance to win prizes by playing cricket on mini-board.
