Delhi Police to probe Sunanda Pushkar's death as murder case, Shashi Tharoor to be questioned
BS Bassi said according to the post mortem report the death was not natural and was due to poisoning.

New Delhi: A year after Congress leader Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in her hotel room, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Tuesday said that a murder case has been filed in it. Sunanda Pushkar was staying at the Leela Hotel in the national capital when she was found dead under mysterious circumstances on January 17, 2014.

Bassi said according to the post mortem report the death was not natural and was due to poisoning. "Post mortem report does not say whether poisoning was taken or injected. We will investigate whether poison was consumed or injected. We need to send samples abroad," he said.

A case has been registered under Section 302 and other relevant section against unknown people. All relevant people, including Shashi Thaoor and family will be questioned in the case, said sources.

Bassi added, "I have told earlier that we are doing everything possible. We want to continue the investigation to probe further. A special team formed under the DCP South."

Reacting to the latest reports, Tharoor in a statement said, "I join all members of Sunanda's family in asking for full information about the basis on which the Police have come to this conclusion. We have not been provided with copies of the post-mortem report and other reports of the inquiry like the CFSL report till date. We repeat our request for a copy of these reports to be provided to us immediately."

Sources added that there was a bite mark on the left hand of Sunanda and several blue colour contusions on the right hand.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate who was heading the case said the death was due to poisoning and the case was transferred to the crime branch of the Delhi Police.

Sources said the hotel was a difficult for anyone to breach and more difficult for anyone to reach Shashi Tharoor and Sunanda Pushkar's suite.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said high profile were involved. "Nobody can't be deprived of life. Very high profile people are involved in it. There is a conspiracy of silence. This a murder. I was going to file a PIL on January 15 but now I'm happy. Finally, the police registered the case for murder. This is not a general case of crime of passion."

Congress leader Rashid Alvi said, "Shashi Tharoor himself wants the investigation in the Sunanda death case to be completed."

Sunanda's friend Suhel Seth said, "A report has been made public by the same organization that had put a different report earlier. This is a case of ambiguity. This is raising questions on credibility of many organisations."####
