NEW DELHI: The DMK decided to have its sweet revenge on Tuesday, by calling for the Prime Minister to be included within Lokpal jurisdiction. This comes as a blow to the government, which is banking on political parties—more importantly UPA allies—to share its views and bail it out on the Lokpal Bill. The government knew that civil society representatives could not ultimately immunise their draft from the political process. But what it did not expect, perhaps, was a mini revolt within its ranks. For DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi who has lost all ammunition to blackmail the UPA-II government, which his party so critically supports and which he feels has done nothing to get his MP daughter Kanimozhi out of jail, this is perhaps a desperate move.Karunanidhi chose to visit Delhi the same day as the UPA meeting on Lokpal, but skipped the meet, and met his daughter in jail.
