THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Appointments were made flouting norms and unnecessary posts were created at the Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd (VISL), Ports Minister K Babu has admitted. Responding to the Express expose on the issue, the Minister said, “All appointments to the VISL will be revisited. Many of these made during the LDF tenure were unnecessary. We are trying to rope in an expert team at VISL and it will be done as per established norms.”Express had reported on Friday that successive LDF and UDF Govts had recruited personnel to VISL giving a wide berth to the PSC.Consider this: the current Chief Operating Officer of VISL, Jayashankar Prasad, though recruited during the LDF reign violating norms, is still in the post even as the decision to sanction the post is pending. Other appointments as well as dismissals have mired VISL in legal tangles as 11 employees, who were recruited during LDF tenure but booted out by the UDF, have moved court. The court had stayed the government decision. The Minister had this to say: “Jayashankar Prasad was allowed to continue as he was an ‘excellent officer’.
