New Delhi: Eight persons, who were injured in a fire at Maha Kumbh Mela, were airlifted to Delhi on an air ambulance of Indian Air Force (IAF) for emergency medical attention. "IAF immediately pressed into service an AN-32 aircraft (modified air ambulance) from Agra on requisition to airlift eight severely burnt pilgrims by Allahabad's District Magistrate and flew them out to Delhi at about 1215 hours yesterday," IAF spokesperson Wing Commander Gerard Galway said.
One of the injured had sustained serious burn injuries and was administered oxygen on-board the aircraft, he added. Along with the injured, the plane also carried their family members and attendants.
Nineteen people, including six women and three children, were injured in the fire incident which had taken place at the pandal of Ram Janaki Mandir Trust and had also engulfed a tent in the vicinity.
