New Delhi: Union Minister for Railways Lalu Prasad has said that the country can once again expect a good Railway Budget.
"Despite the recession and increase in fuel prices, Indian Railways have done well. You can once again expect a good Budget," said Lalu while addressing the media in New Delhi on Friday morning.
He said that railways are earning handsome profits even though there has been no increase in passenger fare.
The fares were reduced expect the First AC and Second AC class. I am not going to disclose what I am going to do today," Lalu said.
With Lok Sabha elections just a couple of months away, Lalu sounded confident of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) retaining power at the Centre.
"UPA WILL form the next government. We will form the government once again. the people of the country has full confidence in UPA. They know that we will not do injustice to them," he said.
However, he declined to speculate if he will once again become the railway minister if the UPA is voted back to power.
Lalu will present the country's interim rail budget for the next fiscal in Parliament on Friday
There expectations that Lalu would once again spare the average citizen from fare hikes and introduce some new trains.
With General Elections looming, Lalu is expected to announce more sops for the aam aadmi (common man).
He may announce some new trains and a cut in the fares. AC-III fares are likely to be slashed by 10 per cent and general class fares may also be slashed by 10 per cent.
