BANGALORE: In a function organised to mark Children’s Day, Governor H R Bhardwaj presented awards to children all over the state to mark their achievements in the field of academics, arts, culture and sports. The Governor also presented the Hoysala and Keladi Chennamma Bravery awards to six children who exhibited exemplary courage in their daily lives.“Two women stole my mother’s purse in a bus at Yeshwantpur, I managed to catch one of them, she slapped me three times but I still did not let go, finally the police came and recovered 30-45 wallets from her,” said 15-year-old Sindhusri from Bagalagunte, a bravery awardee. Also awarded was S S Madhu Shekar of Bangalore who rescued his mother, brother and grandmother from a whirlpool in Mysore district. “I am very happy to get this award. I want to be an astronomer when I grow up,” said Supritha G. Aged just nine years, she can recite the periodic table and Abdul Kalam’s speeches with ease. “It took me two days to memorise the speech,” she added in a offhanded manner.Supritha won the exceptional achievement award and her name has also been nominated for a national award for talent. “It gives us a great sense of pride to see our children being recognised for their talents, they have put in a lot of effort into it and they deserve to be recognised,” said the beaming father of Ajay Sri Shetty, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Yesvantpur who won the Multi Talented award for sports.
