Fire Officer accused of harassing college girl

BALASORE: A fire officer in Bhogarai area of Balasore district has been accused of harassing a college girl on the pretext of marrying her. The police registered a case on Friday. The officer is absconding.According to the FIR lodged by a Plus Three student of a college in Bhogarai, the fire officer had promised to marry her.She said they had met during a festival in the area. “He had taken me to Balasore in February where he proposed marriage to me. Accordingly, I spoke to my mother about our relationship. But now he is not responding to my calls,” she alleged.The girl, who had tried to commit suicide by consuming poison, said the officer had abused her sexually during the three-day stay in a hotel at Balasore, two months back and taken her objectionable pictures at Shankarpur in West Bengal last month.Meanwhile, police have registered a case under Sections 417, 393 and 306 of IPC.A police official said the girl had established relationship with the officer without knowing that he was married. “Efforts are on to trace the accused,” the police official added.
