Kanpur has reported its first case of swine flu this year, leading to panic in the city. A 70-year-old man, who recently arrived from Gurugram, has been confirmed as the first patient. He is currently admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai (Hallet) Hospital in Kanpur. The city administration has issued a swine flu alert.
The elderly patient is receiving treatment and under observation. He has been kept in isolation in the maternity ward of the hospital, where a team of doctors is constantly monitoring him. He has been kept isolated owing to the contagious nature of the disease. According to doctors, after he was diagnosed with swine flu at a hospital in Gurugram, he was brought to Lala Lajpat Rai Hallet Hospital in Kanpur.
The Communicable Disease nodal officer of the hospital, Dr. B.P. Priyadarshini said that the patient has been kept in isolation as per protocols issued during the pandemic. Hence the risk of spreading the infection is less. A team of doctors is constantly monitoring his condition and his treatment is going on.
To alleviate public fears about swine flu, the city administration has clarified that the patient is not a permanent resident of Kanpur but had arrived from Gurugram. Precautionary measures have been implemented, and the administration has urged residents to remain cautious about swine flu.
