CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation has suspended four officials on charges of falsification of records relating to deliveries by garbage trucks. A squad of the Corporation found anomalies in records of garbage truck movement at the Perungudi dump yard. The civic body has ordered an enquiry against the four officials.One of the suspended officials, Assistant Executive Engineer K Varadarajan, served as personal assistant to the DMK’s M Subramanian, during his stint as Chennai Mayor. The other three suspended officials are M Dinakaran, K Ramadoss, K Sundaram, all Conservancy Inspectors. A new team has now been put in place to take care of operations at the Perungudi dump yard.The charge against them is that they falsified records about trucks delivering garbage at the dump yard. A press release from the Corporation said it had found 68 such instances over a two-day period, when garbage truck trips to the dump yard were in the records when the trucks had not gone there at all.Corporation officials remained tight-lipped about the suspension. “The officials have been suspended on anomalies found by the squad that went there for checking. The enquiry will now take place and action will be taken if they are found guilty,” said a source.
