CHENNAI: A former member of the Viduthalai Chiru-thaigal Katchi was hacked to death by a four-member gang, reportedly over previous enmity, at T Nagar on Friday. G Durai, who was staying in a TNSCB flat on Dr Thomas Road in T Nagar, quit the party after he was denied a ticket to contest the recent local body polls, sources said. A cable operator by profession, Durai contested as an independent from ward 117 and lost.On Friday, Durai was having his lunch at a private mess on Milani Road, when four men walked into the hotel and attacked him with knives. Even as other customers screamed and ran out, the gang hacked him. Senior police officials, including JCP K P Shanmugharajeswaran and DCP M Ashok Kumar, investigated the scene of crime. Stating that the assailants had been identified, the JCP informed that two special teams had been formed to nab them. 30 sovereigns lootedBurglars made away with 25 sovereigns of jewellery and Rs 18,000 from the house of a company supervisor at Velachery on Thursday.Jayapal (28) of Anna Street in Mahatma Gandhi Nagar, Taramani, and his family were away at Tiruvannamalai, when the burglars struck. In another incident, five sovereigns and Rs 15,000 cash were stolen from the house of Jayamani of Pillayar Koil Street in Perungudi on Friday.
