RAMANATHAPURAM: Relax, you are not going to miss that mega serial or comedy scene even when undergoing treatment for a medical condition. For the Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Health Sub Centres (HSCs) in the district will soon get free colour televisions (CTVs) to keep the patients entertained. The government authorities came up with this novel idea of installing CTVs at the PHCs and HSCs not just to cheer the patients visiting the health centres or for those recuperating from a surgery. There is another reason also, perhaps more compelling. The CTVs that will be installed in the health centres were acquired by the previous DMK government as part of its freebie scheme. As the AIADMK government had scrapped the free CTV scheme after the officials allegedly found irregularities in its implementation, the already procured sets are being put to good use. “The new plan will allow for better use of the CTVs, instead of simply dumping them,” a district official said.According to sources, all the 52 PHCs and 244 HSCs in the district will get CTVs. A 30-bedded PHC will receive 15 CTVs, whereas 10-bedded facility will get seven. Even the PHCs with two beds will be eligible for the CTVs. Likewise, HSCs will also get their share. “Every HSC in the district will be provided with two CTVs,” an official said.According to an official from the health department official, health centres in Paramakudi will receive the CTVs from the neighbouring Tirunelveli district.
