CHENNAI: In a daring incident, burglars broke into a house under Peerkankaranai police limits on Wednesday and made away with almost all valuables, including cash, jewellery, utensils and home appliances. Interestingly, in a scene similar to the one in the Kollywood flick Nandha, the gang, which arrived in two vans, managed to convince neighbours that they were shifting the belongings of the woman residing in the house to her daughter’s place in Royapettah. Police said Sasikala (53), widow of Rajendra Babu, a former Chennai Harbour staff from Gandhi Nagar in Pudu Perungalathur, had gone to her daughter’s house in Royapettah at the time of the incident. When she returned home on Wednesday evening, she was shocked to find the lock broken and 60 sovereigns of gold, Rs 10,000 cash, bank passbook, home appliances, utensils, a moped and two bicycles missing. Police said that the house was registered in the name of Sasikala’s brother-in-law, who had sold it to another party. Nurse HarassedA male warden attached to a government health institute here was booked for harassment following a complaint registered against him by a woman nurse working in the hospital. Police are on the hunt for the absconding warden. On Sunday, Jayalakshmi, staff nurse at the Institute of Mental Health on Medavakkam Tank Road in Kilpauk, was returning from the rest room, when she saw Anandraj (40), a warden, walking in her direction with two male patients, Assistant Commissioner Krishnasamy told Express. Anandraj asked the two patients, Mohanraj and Gopi, to hug her and the nurse heard his words, the officer said. “The two patients pounced on the nurse and hugged her.” The warden, said to be married and residing in Triplicane, was later suspended. Probe showed that he had a record of indulging in similar behaviour.
