THENI: Goods movement from Theni district to Kerala via Kumily, Cumbum Mettu and Bodi Mettu routes will resume in a day or two, Theni Superintendent of Police (SP) Praveenkumar Abinabu said here on Monday.Speaking to reporters here, the police officialsaid the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border areas were returning to normalcy after tensions soared over the Mullaiperiyar Dam issue recently. Buses from Kerala are operating up to TN border via Kumily, Cumbum Mettu and Bodi Mettu routes. Similarly, the Tamil Nadu ones are plying up to Nedunkandam and Kattappana in Kerala. Private vehicles are also plying along these routes without any problem, he said.The SP said the Kerala government has sought permission to operate buses to Tamil Nadu. “We expect that normalcy will be completely restored in a day or two. In that case, buses from Kerala will be permitted to ply to destinations in Tamil Nadu. Goods movement will also resume around the same time in these routes,” Abinabu said.Informing that the Kerala Spices Board will start sending consignments to Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, the SP said action had been taken to bring loads of cardamom with police protection.However, ban order in Uthamapalayam will remain in force. Cases have been registered and at least 40 people arrested for indulging in violence. “The police are conducting peace committee meetings in the affected areas,” Abinabu added.
