New Delhi: Google has 27 faces of women of different nationalities/ethnicities on its doodle to celebrate the 102nd International Women's Day on March 8.

The shape of the Google logo appears in the gaps between the faces. The face of an Indian woman with a little red bindi on her forehead holds centrestage in the International Women's Day doodle. Also noticeable is a face in a blue hijab.

Unlike previous years, Google has not posted its International Women's Day doodle on its India home page.

Last year, International Women's Day coincided with Holi and coincidentally the Women's Day doodle had a Holi-like feel about it.

In 2011, the 100th anniversary of the event, Google had posted an interactive Google Map inviting users to join tens of thousands people on bridges all over the world to show support for women's causes.

Google has doodled the International Women's Day on five previous occasions. First in 2005, then consecutively after a four-year break, from 2009 to 2012. International Women's Day was first celebrated on March 18, 1911 in four European countries - Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. The United Nations began officially supporting and sponsoring the event since 1975, the year that was designated as International Women's Year.
