TIRUNELVELI: In a shocking incident, a couple was found murdered at the Government Engineering College staff quarters in Tirunelveli, on Friday. Maniraj (48) of Melakarai, near Tirunelveli, was working as junior drafting officer at the Tirunelveli Government Engineering College while his wife Parvathi (42) was working as bill collector atMukudal town panchayat. After he left office on Monday evening, his colleagues never met him. As Maniraj didn’t attend office from Tuesday, the college staff went to his quarters on Friday to inquire about his absence. A foul smell was emanating from the house and the staff immediately informed the police. Senior police officials including Police Commissioner Karunasagar rushed to the spot. “The bodies were in a highly decomposed state. Injuries were found on the bodies, and the chain and ears studs Parvathi was wearing were missing. Her ear lobes had been cut. While the front door of the house was locked, the rear door was open,” police said. Karunasagar said that the crime appeared to be a murder for gain. Property documents were missing. Three special teams have been formed to nab the culprits, he added.
