Governor suggests SC judge for next Lokayukta

BANGALORE: Governor H R Bhardwaj stated that a Supreme Court Justice would be the best choice for the Lokayukta, as the post must inspire public confidence. “The office of the Lokpal and Lokayukta today, has a lot of significance,” he said. The choice must be made wisely, he added. Of the two names doing the rounds as probables for the next Lokayukta of the state, the Governor H R Bhardwaj said that he did not know why the name of N K Sodhi came up since he was already serving with the Securities Appellate Tribunal of SEBI. He said that he had received another suggestion for the Lokayukta post, that of S R Bannurmath who is currently the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.“Karnataka has no dearth of good people, its the choices made that are bad,” the Governor said. “Someone from the Supreme Court would be a good choice,” he added.
