KOCHI: The Kerala High court on Monday directed Air India to pay a compensation of  Rs. 10 lakh out of the amount eligible to the kin of a victim of Mangalore air crash, as a temporary relief. Justice Antony Dominic passed the order, while considering a petition filed by Patricia D’souza, Precita D’souza and Chris Gyari of Mangalore, wife and children of Ignatius D’souza who died in the air crash, seeking a direction to settle the entire statutory claim under the Carriage By Air Act.The petitioners submitted that they are eligible for 1, 14, 231 SDR including compensation for death and loss of baggage.  The Air India express flight from Dubai to Mangalore crashed at Mangalore Airport on May 22, 2010, killing 158 passengers and crew on board while landing.A single judge of the Kerala High Court had earlier passed an order directing Air India to pay a compensation of 1 lakh Special Drawing Rights(SDR), (Rs. 75 lakh), on a petition filed by the family of another victim.  However a division Bench had set aside the single judge’s order on an appeal filed by Air India.
